Come to a workshop on the Emerald Isle! I’m heading back to Ireland for a workshop for the first time since 2019, and will be offering workshops spots along with limited family sessions to book. Whether you’re an Irish local, or the idea of a travel workshop/photos sounds like a good time, this is guaranteed to be a magical experience.
Caroline Quinn will be hosting us in her beautiful newborn studio located in Navan — a breathtaking country town located an hour from Dublin! We’ll be covering both natural and studio light, along with beanbag posing, wrapping, macro, props and family!
The family workshop and family sessions will be shot in one of my favorite spots — the Bective Abbey, founded in 1147. This spot is ideal for both backlit sunshine days, and I’ll be teaching you how to create beautifully lit images on cloudy days, or urban settings, using the walls of the ancient abbey to teach light manipulation. The family workshop will include two hours worth of location scouting, hands on shooting, and I’ll be photographing each attendee to have new headshots! Then, our family model will arrive for a 45 minute session where attendees will mostly be observing how my session flow works — with the ability to ask questions the entire time!
While we do not offer any refunds or exchanges we’d be happy to help you troubleshoot any problems that you may have. If you have any questions at all please reach out at Hello@rachelvanoven.com

After nearly a decade of teaching, I’ve learned that NO ONE learns the same way. Some people learn better from a 1:1, some do better in a large group. Some need to be hands on, others need to watch. Some people need help with only one pose or lighting, others need help with EVERYTHING. So I decided to start an entire new form of workshops, and that's the Fly on the Wall, or observation style, workshop!
These workshops are affordable, relaxed, fun and still jam packed full of knowledge! We’ll meet up and go over set up and prep, then everyone (limit ten attendees) can sit back (or hover over my shoulders) and watch me shoot an entire session start to finish. The entire time, attendees can ask questions, take behind the scene shots to help them remember positioning and light placement, and observe how my sessions flow!
Afterwards, we’ll get cleaned up and head out to dinner…preferably someplace that has tacos and margaritas!
Fly workshops are great for both beginners who want to have a good foundation of knowledge for their business, long-time photographers who need to brush up on a few things, someone who struggles with lighting, people with social anxiety who can stay quiet if they’d like and let others ask questions, and people who like to have fun/relax while learning at the same time!
